Abstract

The community service program entitled “Utilization of Bilimbi (Averrhoa bilimbi) and Preparation of Its Simplisia as Herbal Medicine” aimed to improve public knowledge, skills, and awareness regarding the use of bilimbi as an antihypertensive herbal remedy. The program was conducted in two stages: education on the benefits of bilimbi leaves and fruits, and practical demonstrations on the preparation of simplisia and bilimbi juice. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge from 40% to 100% regarding the health benefits of bilimbi, growing interest in processing the plant into simple herbal products, and enhanced awareness of hygienic and safe handling practices. This program demonstrates that combining education with practical training is effective in promoting behavior change toward the sustainable use of local medicinal plants and can serve as a model for similar community service programs in other communities.
