Abstract

The development of environmentally friendly household products has become an essential solution to meet society's growing demand for sustainable goods while supporting environmental preservation. This community engagement initiative focuses on developing soap made from lerak fruit extract (Sapindus rarak) as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional soaps. Lerak soap offers benefits such as cleaning metal surfaces, batik fabrics, and other household items while minimizing environmental pollution. The research involved training participants in making liquid lerak soap through soaking and heating lerak fruit, as well as producing solid soap using materials such as coconut oil, NaOH solution, and essential oils or fragrances. Following the training, participants' satisfaction was evaluated using a questionnaire completed by 23 respondents, with data analysis presented through diagrams, heatmaps, and pie charts. The results revealed that 92.9% of respondents gave positive feedback ("Good" or "Very Good") about the training, with an average satisfaction 51.8 percent. Most participants found the materials relevant and applicable, although some noted the need for more discussion time and tailored content to address specific needs. In conclusion, developing lerak soap not only provides an eco-friendly alternative but also empowers communities through sustainable innovation. Proper formulations of lerak soap can raise public awareness about environmentally friendly products while supporting economic and environmental sustainability. This initiative offers a solid foundation to promote sustainable household product programs.
